Can experienced oil and gas engineers move into tech?

Does the Valley hire experienced engineers from other industries, such as oil and gas/petrochemicals? With basic coding knowledge, is it possible to move into software?

Edit: oil ans gas operations/projects are very large and complex, spreading across almost every discipline from construction, project management, chemistry, engineering, industrial automation, etc. Does the tech world value this experience, and if someone wanted to switch careers into the tech world, what would be the best way to accomplish this?

There are some O&G tech companies in Colorado if you want a lower cost of living. There is generally a large industry presence here.

Magnetic Variation Services LLC hired a friend out a coding bootcamp.

I actually have a number of friends and acquaintances in the industry. The field is ripe for technical enhancements, but then there is so much money no many in the upper ranks care at times. A number of them have ideas for businesses though I've not entertained the ideas much, having my own business I'm working on.
