Tell that to my 70 year old grandmother who has replaced both the motherboard and hard drive in her Lenovo desktop. If you design a somewhat reasonably easy to repair computer people are more than happy to fix it themselves. It's only because of the difficulty of repairing apple products that people shy away from the idea.

The problem is that it's not 0% its more like 2-3% and most want repairs at a reasonable rate that is enabled by a robust market and available parts without weird restrictions like those put upon official sanctioned shops.

Yes, and this applies outside of computers, to cars, etc.

But the PC/PC gaming enthusiast market is probably some appreciable percentage of the population. And people building Hackintoshes are certainly tinkering with their computer and hardware in the process - yet they tolerate, or even accept, Apple's vendor lock-in enough to use their OS.
