Making food "bigger" doesn't necessarily make it better.

Once I'd visited America a couple of times, and saw the serving-sizes which are offered it suddenly became obvious why obesity is such a big problem.

No it doesn't, however a decent few slices of meat make for a far better sandwich than what we get here in many places - a mere sliver.
