Generally, I touch type them with the standard fingers. I use a US keyboard layout and that might (or might not) have some relevance. I find better lighting helps...e.g. all those keys are harder to type in darkness so my touch typing probably utilizes peripheral vision. On the other hand, those keys tend to be slower and less accurate than ordinary characters, even with practice.
But practice seems to be the key.
