I'm trying to Master the art of programming can you recommend any books or videos that help you truly understand programming to become an expert.

I'm mostly interested in Web development to use Javascript or PHP later on down the road but I just have hard time understanding programming.

how things fit together the big picture! I want that AHA moment. I don't have a degree and to be honest I'm far away from one my current situation right now I want to self learn I can't afford school to get a decent job.
