I hear you, but I think it's more protest/irony than information. Page-breaking is a cheap trick to inflate page views, borne of the same low cunning that gives us items priced at $2.98 instead of $3.
When I'm reading HN on a phone or other high-latency environment I appreciate saving the extra roundtrip.
