Can you expand more on what it is to be "careful"? What can I do to reduce the data usage when attempting to view a long video?

There is a setting in the YouTube app to only play in SD when not on WiFi but that may only be on Android. It's still not nearly as fine grained as it should be.

On iPhone, YouTube will only play on lowest possible quality on cellular.
