I don't think selfies are really the crucial common factor here. It seems to be more of a general "hey guys, watch this" thing, and selfies are just one way of communicating that. Doesn't make it any less sad though.
There should be a ,,selfie related intimate acts with attractive people'' list as well to see how advantages and disadvantages of selfies balance out, but I think the advantage part wouldn't fit on a wiki page.
